Collaboration with Offermoord ... by offermoord

... slightly tweaked digitally ... to even out the difference between my drawing and Vuture's (Offermoord's) work (since it was a print... and looked very grey).

didn't know you could play exquisite corpses on DA - apparently you can, and it can result in exceptionally fine artworks like this...

:) thanks :)
it isn't quite "exquisite corpse" .... not that I have ever done one... but I knew what the other half looked like so I catered my image to the existing elements and structure... I think with "corpse" you only get to see a small linking strip.

yes, true... you took the tentacle-and-eyeball theme already offered by Offermoord, and ran with it.  In an exquisite corpse you would not have had that concept...  though knowing your work, tentacles might still have featured rather heavily...  :)  I like the mixed tones of this; some of your tentacles seem determined to show off their art-nouveau elegance, while others think they're in a Terry Gilliam animation, as so often, you manage to mix the sublime, the sinister and the silly into a unique and fascinating cocktail

... You are right about the tentacles ...
While drawing I had this weird  idea that the tentacles started out with vicious mouths that would pluck out the eyes of the victim... eventually making the eyes its' own .... I played around with the idea of having different color and types of eyes .... and maybe the hint of an eyeless corpse .... but those thoughts are  lost ... not  much more than a spring board. :)

well, editing out is also an important part of the process - I am sure you made the right call.  And I forgot to mention your usual technical prowess and generosity of texture which is richly on display here.

How large would a piece like this be?

8.5" X 11"
I was kind of limited by what paper would fit in my printer.... but the troubling part for me wasn't the size (most of my stuff is about that size) but, the card stock I printed on was a lot softer and more porous thanI am use to .... so my lines are a bit blurry with a lot of little bleedy spots..... I kind of tried to work with it... but I regretted my paper choice at a few points .... my pens didn't like the surface :) and I had to be careful not to poke through..... I do not have a light hand :)

I used some dollar store sketch book for a couple of my recent sketches, and was careful not to overdo the ink, etc. i just wondered, because it gives me an idea of the scale in which your hands must be working, etc. I remember being surprised when I saw the size or Robert DeJesus' caricatures the first time - I had always thought they were bigger, but he does a lot in a smaller space. Your work the way you do, is very beautiful

Yeah I use to draw on anything.... I know one of my older posts was on a paper plate .... I just zoomed in on the good part :)
Lately though I have been getting bizarrely tight with my ink drawings .... and the things I use to look for with paper ... like tooth or ability to absorb liquids   haven't mattered.  I am on my 5th one of these: www.amazon.com/Strathmore-Visu… the paper is like a heavy smooth card stock ... I really love it .... it can handle wet media well too, in  a way .... it doesn't warp and holds pretty well, but you can't draw on it while it is damp the surface falls apart.

... and thanks :)

Is this traditional or digital?

Well... I would say traditional... but I did play with the contrast and tint a bit.
I started by printing out the first half (left hand side) and then drew on that print.... but after scanning the full collaboration, I tweaked the contrast and such digitally, because the printed half seemed faded next to the pen I used.... I wanted it to seem more homogeneous.

Oh
So you drew them traditionally and you edited the artwork

yep... well my half of it anyway.. this is an open collaboration ... I only drew the right hand side.  ... but I believe Offermoord's half is traditional as well.
